How to search effectively on the Internet {Column, first Installment}

One of the best tools is Noodle Quest at: http://www.noodletools.com/noodlequest/index.html

Fill out the form and it tells you where to search! Yes, it is that simple. And it is very thorough. It takes a minute to fill out an easily understood form describing what and how you want to look for. Then, it will suggest about three tools online to use initially, but if you want more, it will keep giving you more.

Very, very cool.

PS- My motto in Internet research, which itself is a source of great delight to me, is "If you can think of it, it is probably available on the Internet already, and probably for free! The trick is knowing how to find it." This motto has almost never proved untrue!

One of the best places to find and find all about search engines is: www.searchenginewatch.com !

New search engines on the horizon, specialized search engines, changes in various engines, how to use them…it's all there and more.

I found a tshirt search engine there! http://www.teefinder.com/

What are the chances of that? I also found www.directhit.com which is my overall favorite to this day. I swear by it.

How to search effectively on the Internet {Column, third Installment}

Knowing what words are really key.

Make a long, long list of words to search against before you even get started. Just one right keyword, and the information you may have thought didn't exist is right at your finger tips.

Some helpful hints in reference to this…

1. Enlarge your vocabulary.
2. Try all your keywords across several search engines.
3. Try different word endings

Try wild cards, that little asterisk * before the word
